StationBolt by Coastal Grid Now available

The vendor-agnostic IEC 61850 configuration tool.

Design the one-line, assign the IEDs, and configure the complete IEC 61850 station across vendors. Validate the whole station at once, then export the station SCD, every CID, the AutoCAD drawing set, and full PDF and Excel reports.

What's inside

Full IEC 61850 configuration, in one tool.

Tightly integrated workspaces share a single project model. Edits in the one-line propagate downstream, and CIDs regenerate only when settings change. Configure IED names, network settings, datasets, MMS, GOOSE, and Sampled Values.

Configure the station. The one-line draws itself.

Add positions and equipment, assign IEDs, and choose the protection and control features you need. StationBolt draws the one-line as you work and assigns the matching template CID, ICD, and IID files automatically.

Why StationBolt

Built by substation engineers, for substation engineers.

StationBolt replaces the per-vendor, file-by-file way of configuring a digital substation with one project model. The full station is in one tool, from the one-line to the generated SCD, CIDs, drawings, and reports.

See the whole station

Design and review the complete station in one project: every voltage level, position, and IED.

Replaces: one relay at a time

Every vendor in one tool

Configure SEL, GE, Siemens, ABB, and more in the same project, with capability-aware defaults for each device.

Replaces: a tool per vendor

Station-wide validation

With the whole station in one model, StationBolt catches what per-IED tools cannot: duplicate MAC addresses and APPIDs, IP and naming collisions, dangling subscriptions, and more, all caught before commissioning starts.

Replaces: conflicts found at commissioning

Simplified change management

Make a change once, in one software. It propagates from the one-line to datasets, control blocks, and mappings, and only the affected CIDs regenerate.

Replaces: edits scattered across tools and files

Copy and paste, at any scale

Duplicate a full station, a position, or a single IED. Everything comes along: equipment, features, addressing, and configuration.

Replaces: rebuilding repetitive bays by hand

A comprehensive SCL tool

SCD, CID, ICD, and IID across Edition 1, 2, and 2.1, with vendor Private elements preserved.

Replaces: partial SCL support

Commissioning-ready reports

Generate full-station configuration reports in PDF and Excel: IEDs, MMS reports, GOOSE, Sampled Values, and the complete mapping matrix.

Replaces: hand-built commissioning spreadsheets

Drawings that match the CIDs

A single device selection chooses both the drawing and CID templates, so they always match.

Replaces: drawings that drift from the configuration
Standards coverage

Drawing configuration

Drawings that stay in sync with the CIDs.

The same device selection that picks a CID template also picks the matching AutoCAD DWG templates. StationBolt updates the text elements on those drawing templates from your station design, so the drawing set matches the configuration files.

  • One selection, two outputs: choosing a device picks both the correct CID and the matching DWG templates

  • Driven by the one-line: drawings regenerate from the station design and the same device selections

  • Your standard drawings, updated automatically: StationBolt generates a new drawing package per device, filling the AutoCAD DWG fields with the drawing number, position, equipment, IED names, titles, and more, straight from the station design

  • Every sheet in the package: One-lines, schematics, wiring diagrams, and whatever else your standard set includes, each updated to the station design instead of redrawn by hand

Station reporting

Reports for the entire station.

Generate configuration reports for the full IEC 61850 station in PDF and Excel, documenting the current configuration, ready for design review and commissioning records.

  • Full station coverage: every IED, MMS report control block, GOOSE publisher/subscriber, SV publisher/subscriber, and the mapping matrix

  • PDF and Excel formats: PDFs for official records and sign-offs, Excel workbooks you can filter, sort, and update

  • Dated and traceable: summary counts and a generation timestamp on every report, so you always know which revision you are looking at

Delivery and experience

A modern Windows app that works like the tools you already use.

StationBolt installs on your engineering workstations and works on your files locally. Your station data never leaves your network.

Built on WinUI 3

A native Windows 11 interface with multi-document tabs and a command palette.

Your data stays local

StationBolt reads and writes your SCL files on your machine.

Drag-and-drop design

Drop data model points into datasets and wire GOOSE and Sampled Value bindings.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions.

Is StationBolt an SCL tool?

Yes. In IEC 61850-6 terms StationBolt is a System Configuration Tool (SCT): it imports CID, ICD, and IID files, holds the whole station in one project model instead of one device file at a time, and generates the station SCD and a CID for every IED. Editions 1, 2, and 2.1, with vendor Private elements preserved throughout.

Which relay vendors does StationBolt work with?

SEL and GE are fully supported. Siemens and ABB are partially supported, with full support coming soon. Other vendors, including Schneider and NR, can be imported but not yet fully configured. Any mix of vendors can share one project.

How is StationBolt licensed?

StationBolt is available through Coastal Grid. Request a quote for per-seat or site licensing.

Can I bring an existing project?

Yes. Import existing CID, ICD, and IID files across Edition 1, 2, and 2.1, with every vendor Private element preserved.

Where does my configuration data live?

On your machine. StationBolt works on your files locally, so your station data stays inside your network.

How do I evaluate it?

Run a 30-day trial on your own. Contact us for a trial license key, install StationBolt on your workstations, and configure a real station at your own pace. We can also scope a pilot alongside your team if you want help getting started.

What is coming next?

SSD file creation is coming soon, so you can author the station specification directly in StationBolt.
